Addis Ababa Unity Park

Addis Ababa, the capital of Africa has got a new park with a near distance of Bole International airport.

Unity Park is established in 2019. The park is located at the grand palace in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia a compound that has been a seat of state for more than a century.

The total land coverage of the grand palace is 40 acres and it contains myriads of historical buildings and plants that date back to the time of Emperor Menelik the second, who is the founder of the Grand palace.


The grand palace where the Unity Park is located was established in 1887 by the Menelik II and his wife Empress Taytu Betul.

Since 1887, seven Ethiopian leaders without counting the current Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed have administered Ethiopia from the grand palace. These are Emperor Menelik II, Lij Eyasu Michael, Empress Zewditu, Emperor Haile Selassie, Colonel Mengistu Hailemariam, Prime Minister Meles Zenawi, and Prime Minister Haile Mariam Desalegn.

Unity Park is composed of six sites. This includes the black lion cave, indigenous plants location, regional pavilions, a green area, a zoo and a series of historical buildings. With the exception of the historical buildings the five other sites have been recently developed with great diligence and day to day effort.
